Gary Leslie Frost was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. As a youth Gary was an Eagle Scout, and he distinguished himself as president of his senior class. He was also a two year member of the National Honor Society. He played basketball and football at East and selected as an All-City quarterback.
Gary attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio where he majored in Psychology. After graduation from Mount Union, Gary returned to Youngstown and became the coordinator of the Crisis Intervention Department of the Parkview Counseling Center. It was at this time that he was called into the ministry and after serving three years as interim pastor of the Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church became pastor of the Rising Star Baptist Church where he served for eighteen years. During this time he graduated from the Central Bible College with a degree in Christian Education and Ashland Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Psychology.
Gary’s leadership potential has been realized by the Southern Baptist Convention as he served as president of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio, Second Vice-President of the National Southern Baptist Convention, a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, vice-president of the North American Mission Board and most recently served as executive director of the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association relating to over 200 churches. As a co-founder of The Hope Consortium, Gary has been very active in mentoring at Rikers Island Corrections where he has developed the Urban Eagle Mentoring Initiative targeting young men 16 through 21 years of age.
Gary has been married for thirty-six years to the former Lynette Bentley of Youngstown and they are the proud parents of 6 children. Over the years the Frosts have served as foster parents for over 40 children in the Youngstown community.
When all is said in done the passage of scripture that best captures the driving passion in Gary’s life is John 15:1-8; he says that Jesus Christ is the Source of his success.
